Directions for Construction an Eyeglass Case
These instructions assume that the crafter knows the basics of machine sewing and hand sewing. Materials Needed: Two pieces of cloth - 8" x 7.75" in color to match stitched design. Two pieces of quilting batting or felt - same size as cloth. Sewing machine Needle, matching thread, scissors, sewing pins, iron, ironing board, towel
1) Place the two pieces of batting or felt together, matching edges. Place (1) piece of cloth on top of felt, face up. Place the other piece of cloth on top, face down. Match edges and pin in place. 2) Using 1/2" seam allowance, sew all (4) pieces together, leaving a space for turning. (See Illustration) 3) Trim batting close to seam. (1/8") Trim cloth seam allowance to about 1/4". Trim corners very close.
4) Turn piece right-side-out so that the cloth is on the outside. Using scissors tip, carefully push out corners. Iron piece flat, turning under the edges at opening. Hand sew opening closed. Piece should now look like a pot holder measuring 6.75" x 7". 5) Fold piece in half so that the (2) shorter sides are together. Hand sew along a short side and the long side to make the eyeglass case.
6) Trim the stitched design to within 9 stitch spaces. (1/2") Place a towel on the ironing board, then place the stitched piece, face down on the towel. Fold over edges along design and press. (The towel will keep the iron from flattening the stitches, keeping the design looking fresh.) Pin the design in place, face up on the eyeglass and hand sew, using small over-cast stitches.
